1967 Summer of Love
1967 Summer of Love aka Flashback to the 70’s is my self portrait.
18×36 Acrylic
The world is bombarded with images & symbols of the 1970*s.
They are in commercials, clothing, home furnishings and advertisements.
The Peace Sign has been a lifetime symbol to me because of the social movement from my childhood in Chicago, and the Viet Nam War that was during my high school years.
Our neighborhood marched for FREEDOM – LOVE * and Civil Rights in 1967.
We had many heated conversations of the Viet Nam war raging at our dinner table.
I placed the whirling waves of color around my head to convey that message.
If Peace ever comes it will be because of the constant messages we are reminded of every day.
This painting is a gentle reminder of that Peace we need.
